King’s Cup

March 31, 2007

King’s CupSaturday March 31st was a day everyone was looking forward to when news of a soccer tournament went out to the churches. This day was filled with drama and action. It turned out to be a cloudy day which is very favorable for such an event. At precisely 1100 hours the Catholics, Hosanna Bible ministry from Tonota, Baptist Church, Riverside Church and Community Church were all ready for action. Together with supporters from participating churches there were approximately 70 youth at JOHN MACKENZIE SCHOOL grounds.

Community Church was undefeated throughout the tournament and walked away with the KING’S CUP.

Tournament Results:

Community Church 3-0

Baptists Church 2-1

Riverside Church 1-1-1

Catholic Church 1-2-1

Hosanna Bible Ministries 0-3

Special thanks to Pastor Brian from the Baptist Church for conducting the awards ceremony. We plan to host this event twice a year and hope you will join us next time. For further information contact “King” Darius (Francistown Coordinator) @ 71492152

Church Without Walls

March 11, 2007

Church Without Walls80 youth and young adults from all over Gaborone gathered at GSS sports grounds on Saturday 10th March for Church Without Walls, a day of sports, fun and worship organised by the King’s Foundation. We started early with volunteers coming to set up at 8am and the sports kicked off by about 10am. The morning consisted of an 11-a-side football match – Matata vs the All Star, a very close game eventually won by the All Stars in extra time with a final score of 5-4. Matata then went on to win the volleyball tournament in the afternoon, beating every team they played!

There was also a 5 a side basketball match going on; softball and a fantastic kids program run almost single handedly all morning by John from the National Youth Centre.

After lunch we all went over the road to the Anglican Cathedral for a concert with local Christian band Audience of One. It was a fantastic two hours of rocking praise and worship, with a mixture of English and Tswana songs – all favourites it seemed! Even having played sport all morning no one could stay in their seats for long but everyone was up on their feet, singing along and dancing their hearts out. What an awesome time!

We’d like to say a big thank you to everyone who was involved in making the day happen: to GSS for letting us use the grounds; to all the volunteers who helped out; to Kumukwane Church for the fantastic lunch; to the Anglican Church for letting us use their hall and to Audience of One for such a great finish to the day. We look forward to doing it again sometime soon!

Looking Ahead to Church Without Walls

March 3, 2007

Church Without Walls In one weeks time (March 10th) The King’s Community will be hosting an event at GSS Grounds called “Church Without Walls”. Youth from around the city are invited to a day of sports, food, fellowship and worship. The activities begin at 0930hrs so come ready to compete in various sports and prepared to get to know new people from around the city. As the name suggests we will be enjoying community together without the various “walls” we tend to put up in our lives.
