Sponsored Knit!!?

Last night The King’s Foundation was well represented at the annual Sponsored Knit in Francistown. Every year the Francistown Women’s Institute hosts this event to raise money for specific community projects. This year money raised went to the Lephoi Centre for the Visually Impaired.

The event itself is a lot of fun. Participants enter teams of four to knit for an hour. Prizes are given for the most money raised by a group, most lines knitted in an hour and most artistic design (another word for terrible). The coveted ‘artistic’ award went to yours truly (Matt). Apparently the judge didn’t recognize my intent – from the picture you can clearly see that I was working on a collar!

Hockey Coaching Courses

The Kings Foundation would like to thank Botswana Hockey Association (BHA) for putting on a not just one but two fantastic coaching courses over the past month, one in Gaborone and one in Francistown. Both of the courses were a great success and were run by their development officer, Bongani Nsumiwa, with help from others from the BHA and Gaborone Hockey Club. A total of 51 volunteers from The King’s Foundation along with local hockey players were trained in the basics of field and indoor hockey, with the emphasis on the key skills you need when introducing hockey to beginners. They all thoroughly enjoyed the course and are looking forward to putting what they learned into practice over the coming months.
