The King’s Foundation was recently entered in to an online competition called “Sport for a Better World”. Click Here to access the form that was submitted on behalf of King’s Foundation Botswana for the competition. It will provide you with an in depth look at what we’ve been up to these past 3 years. You may want to get a cup of coffee or tea before you begin.

Botswana Outreach Update – 12th January

January 16, 2008

(email update sent from team conducting 2-week trip to Ghanzi and Maun)

I finally managed to get online again so thought I’d let you know how things are going! We’ve almost finished the training time in Maun. It’s been awesome – I’m so proud of the guys. This training time was really professional. We ironed out all the little bumps from our time in Ghanzi and the whole thing has run really well.

We’ve had 33 delegates from One Way Sports, Love Botswana, other churches and some teachers too. Everyone is having a great time and our guys have really pumped them up in the same way as at the National Conference. They’re really excited about an AWANA kit staying in Maun – we’ll be leaving it with Ray and then other organisations can borrow it from them.

We’ve again had some great times of sharing and fellowship with our hosts here, and really connected with One Way Sports. Ray is keen to see our volunteers get involved with trainings run by the ISC and even for some of them to get to the ISLS in SA which is so exciting! Ray is also really keen to organise a kids games with us this year so we’ll see what happens. All in all it’s been great to be connected and partnered with the only other sports ministry organisation in Botswana.

The other cool thing was the sports camp yesterday. It was our biggest one yet with about 400 kids! It was awesome! We’re pumped up for a big AWANA today!

We had some car trouble while here in Maun. Farai was at a garage getting it fixed today so that we can move on to Gweta. We’ll be doing AWANA at Gary’s church tomorrow morning, a programme in Gweta and then hopefully moving on to Dukwi. It’s a bit
up in the air as things seem a bit unsettled at Dukwi Refugee Camp.

Anyways i must go…I will write again when i get home!

Botswana Outreach Update – 8th January

January 16, 2008

(email update sent from team conducting 2-week trip to Ghanzi and Maun)

Things are going well so far. The Ghanzi training had 17 people. This was smaller than expected but we enjoyed good training times and nice sports programmes. It was also awesome to connect with Window of Hope and True Love Waits and get to know them better. We’ve had a great time of sharing and prayer with both groups and have built some quality relationships.

The camp in Mabutsane with Glow went well too – she loved having us there and we left an AWANA set with her for future programmes. Glow was well excited with the gift. We said we’d lend here the set for 6 months, see what’s happening on a regular basis and if things are set up and run weekly we’ll leave it with her. She sounds like she’s already setting things in motion for a Saturday morning programme.

The team is doing well. Victor had to attend to family matters just as we arrived in Ghanzi so Shepherd and Oliver have had to step into his shoes a bit and take on some more responsibility in facilitating sessions. Both of them have done very well. Eddie has been fantastic – full of life, fun, energy and really keeping the delegates pumped up when things start to lag. He has also been great in the sit down sessions.

We’re all getting on well although community living (being around each other 24/7) can be trying. Anyways, that’s it from me for now – will send some more feedback from
Maun if i can get online : )

Bringing in the New Year

January 16, 2008

2008 looks to be an exciting year for The King’s Foundation with weekly community outreach programmes in Gaborone and Francistown, King’s Camps International running every school holiday, our 2nd Annual National Sports Leadership Conference and working closely with our increasing list of Botswana partners. To get the year off to a great start we have embarked on a two week training tour to Ghanzi and Maun. As I type this the seven person team of King’s Foundation Botswana volunteers is bringing the trip to a close. The following entries are email updates from Ruth Deaville (Gaborone Coordinator 2007).
